Escape the Summer Heat at Takkiri Ravine

Hello everyone!

How’s everyone in this hot summer weather? In Japan, most of us are managing to find some heat relief with
kakigori shaved ice treats, personal fans, and other nifty summer accessories. But we could all use a little extra
help, especially on those sweltering days. For that, Takkiri Ravine in Nakatsu City’s Yabakei region provides
respite for those cooling their heels in its gentle waters, a picture perfect place to splash and cool off during the summer months.

The ravine’s riverbed runs approximately two kilometers and is made from a single slab of volcanic rock —
smooth enough for bare feet — and is relatively flat throughout, making it an easy trek for visitors of all ages.
It’s usual ankle-deep waters rarely get more than 30 centimeters deep, so it’s a safe spot to bring small children.

You can enjoy the Takkiri Ravine in all its seasonal glory throughout the year, with its red leaves of autumn,
snowscapes during the winter, and fresh greenery of spring. However, the summer proves to be the best (and
most popular) time to visit, with families and friends alike coming to splash in the calm waters for the perfect
summer day out. With the tree canopy overhead, you’ll immediately feel the relief of the shade while you relax
in Takkiri’s cooling streams.

Bring a picnic or consider an overnight stay at the nearby campsite and cabins situated along the ravine. After a full day of play in the water, the natural sounds of the Yabakei mountains will surely lull you peacefully to sleep.

As always, we hope you’re all enjoying the summer wherever you are, and we anxiously await your visit when
travel becomes possible again!
