How to Enjoy the Autumn Harvest Season in Japan
Compared to other seasons, autumn tends feels a lot cool in Japan. Winter is of course cold but that is to be
expected. Fall is a bit different though. As temperatures drop, people start to spend a lot of time outdoors once
the beastly days of summer are over. During this time, one popular activity that Japanese annually enjoy is
picking ripe fruit like pears and grapes. In the case of the latter, this adventure combines quite well with local
wine.
In Oita, there are about 20 farms where you can enjoy picking grapes right off of the vine. Many of these can be found around the Ajimu area and Usa city. We visited them in the middle of September and saw many domestic tourists enjoying grape picking tours. Of course, there is a winery in the same area of Oita Prefecture too which are great add on for the wine connoisseurs out there.”
