Mizugajo Observatory 5
The Mizugajo Observatory is a scenic viewpoint located at the summit of a mountain approximately 200 meters above sea level in Usuki City, Oita Prefecture. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Chinnan Mountain, Hime-dake, and the cityscape of Usuki. This spot is also the site of the former "Mizugajo," a medieval mountain castle built by the Usuki clan. The castle, which made excellent use of the natural terrain, was used as a refuge and defensive stronghold during wartime. Access to the observatory involves a 10-minute taxi ride from Usuki Station, followed by a 30-minute uphill walk. Although the path includes some steep sections, the stunning view from the summit makes the effort worthwhile. In addition to the daytime scenery, the observatory also offers beautiful night views of Usuki City, making it a destination worth visiting both day and night.
