Otomo Sorin Cemetery Park 4

Located on a slightly elevated hill next to a quiet residential area, the Otomo Sorin Cemetery Park is a serene and historical site. Tsukumi is known as the final resting place of Otomo Sorin (1530–1587), a warlord who once dominated Kyushu during the Sengoku period and is also remembered as a Christian daimyo. Within the cedar grove adjacent to the park, you’ll find Sorin’s grave, designated as a City Historic Site, along with a newly constructed Christian-style tomb designed by the renowned architect Arata Isozaki. The site exudes a solemn and dignified atmosphere. The park is surrounded by lush greenery, with cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn leaves in fall. It’s a perfect spot to take a peaceful stroll and reflect on the legacy of Otomo Sorin.
