San-no-maru Yagura Gate of Saiki Castle 4
Designated Tangible Cultural Property The San-no-maru Yagura Gate of Saiki Castle is the only remaining structure from the castle's fortifications and serves as the most iconic symbol of Saiki tourism. This Yagura Gate was originally constructed in 1637 (Kan'ei 14) during the rule of the third domain lord, Takanao Mori. It was built as the main gate of the domain's government office when the lord's residence was moved from the summit of Hachiman Mountain to the foothills at the San-no-maru area. The gate was rebuilt twice during the feudal era, and the current structure dates back to 1832 (Tenpō 3).
